Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a reputed English language proficiency test accepted by thousands of universities worldwide. TOEFL is one of the two major English language tests (the other being IELTS) for non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English speaking universities.

TOEFL is conducted by ETS (Education Testing Services) and it tests international students’ usage and understanding of English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university surroundings.

The test can be taken at a center near you or even remotely at home with the TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition.

Why take TOEFL?

TOEFL is the top choice among students wishing to pursue an education abroad. Every year, more TOEFL scores are sent to universities in the US and Canada than all the other English language tests combined. It is accepted by over 11,000 colleges and institutions around the world including those in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany etc.

TOEFL also provides the benefit of being admissible during scholarship and visa application processes.

Types of TOEFL

TOEFL is generally available in two formats - TOEFL iBT (internet based test) and TOEFL paper based test. The majority of TOEFL (almost 98%) around the world are taken in the iBT format. The paper based test is available only in a few areas, mostly places where internet accessibility is low.

The TOEFL internet Based Test is the online version of TOEFL that can be taken with ease. Most candidates prefer this mode because of the convenience and the minimal effort it requires.

TOEFL paper based

The TOEFL paper based test is made available to candidates in remote areas who cannot access the TOEFL iBT. It has been modelled closely with the TOEFL iBT but excludes the speaking section due to technological shortcomings.

Eligibility Criteria

ETS, the conducting body of TOEFL has not specified any kind of eligibility criteria for aspiring students. There are no age criteria, educational qualification or prerequisites to appear for the exam.
