SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)

The Scholastic Assessment Test or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a standardized test widely used for admission to undergraduate schools and universities in the US and Canada. It is generally taken by students in the final year of school.

The SAT is owned and conducted by the College Board, a private, non-profit organisation in the United States.

The three hour test can be taken multiple times to improve scores. An application fee of around $ 50-100 is to be paid each time.

Why take the SAT?

SAT is the most common test accepted by most universities in the United States, while granting admission to undergraduate courses. Apart from this, SAT scores are one of the deciding factors while allotting scholarship money to students.

Eligibility

There is no age limit for writing the SAT. However, the candidates are required to either have completed or be in high school at the time of writing the exam.

Types of SAT

The Scholastic Aptitude Test is taken by students seeking admissions to undergraduate programmes. It is typically of two types - the Regular SAT and the SAT Subject Tests.

The regular SAT is a general test that is designed to evaluate the candidates on the basis of written, verbal and mathematical skills.

The SAT Subject Test on the other hand is designed to check the knowledge of students in specific subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, World History, Literature etc.
