The NEU men's team for playing hockey won 2018 and 2019 Beanpot as they beat Boston University, Harvard and Boston College. It also has 485 campus organizations with 18,900 student participants 2018–2019.
The College of Liberal Arts had been added in 1935. It was only after World War II that the college admitted women. The college has various tie-ups with other universities like Tufts, School, and Museum of Fine Arts and the Hebrew College. The research centres include the Advanced Scientific Computation Center (ASCC) and Affective Science Institute (ASI) among many others. 308 patents have been granted to faculty and students between 2006–2019.
